LEIGH VOIGT | Significant Trees
19 June – 18 July 2026
Everard Read London presents an exhibition of new paintings by South African artist, Leigh Voigt.
An eminent and exacting botanical artist, Voigt has minutely examined trees throughout her life. She has scrutinized them scientifically and as biological miracles, and she has stood in their presence in wonder.
Voigt understands the essence of a tree. A particular species imparts an atmosphere to a landscape that transcends all other characteristics. Her paintings often juxtapose deep shade with blinding white light, recalling for us that the shade thrown by a tree - particularly in an area of unrelenting aridity - can define its character as profoundly as a beautifully rendered gnarled, old trunk.
This collection of paintings bears testimony to Voigt’s lifelong reverence of trees. Her rare gift is her uncanny ability of capturing the unique characteristics of the trees she brings to life on canvas. With their tangled mass of prickly branches or craggy, weather-worn trunks, her intricate portraits of trees are extraordinary and timeless.
This is Leigh Voigt’s second solo exhibition with Everard Read London.
