ANGUS TAYLOR IMMANENCE | TRANSCENDENCE
9 October - 7 November 2020
Everard Read London presents a solo exhibition by acclaimed South African sculptor, Angus Taylor.
Renowned for his powerful sculptural works, Taylor works with an extraordinary range of materials from his immediate environment - Belfast granite, red jasper and the orange soil found near his studio in Pretoria.
In his ongoing exploration of the human condition and its capacity for struggle and resilience, Taylor has often returned to the male figure and frequently to self-portraits. Indeed, the relish with which the artist wrestles with tough and challenging materials serves as a metaphor for humanity’s ability to overcome adversity and to be profoundly shaped by the experience.
In this exhibition, Taylor revisits the female form; here we see the artist’s signature figures of homo sapiens, the bronze and heterogeneity of stone evoking ancient rock found in the earth’s crust in stark contrast to humanity’s transience.
