Nigel Mullins: Mass Gatherings

In his exhibition titled Mass Gatherings, South African artist, Nigel Mullins, serves up historic and present-day events, heroes and victims and iconic objects as contemporary vanitas paintings.

Mullins’ painterly exploration exploits sumptuous impasto and, in this solo show, it encompasses Trafalgar Square during the Trump protests; VE day in Times Square, 1945;  the Charlie Hebdo protests in Paris; a 1991 mass gathering in Moscow’s Red Square, and the Woman Suffrage 1913 March on Washington DC.
