Rina Stutzer's monumental public sculpture at the Mall of Africa

'There is No Time Like the Present' is a large-scale, site-specific sculpture made by Rina Stutzer for the Mall of Africa in Midrand (near Johannesburg).
 
The sculptures, at a height of 5.5m, represent the two faces of Africa: the line sculpture represents an Africa rooted in tradition; the bare bones of a continent that holds us all together. The second sculpture, built from mirror-finish stainless steel, allows us to see the wealth of opportunity and the inherent potential that lies within all of us.

Barbara Wildenboer: Eros / Thantos At Everard Read Johannesburg

Barbara Wildenboer's solo 'Eros / Thanatos' opens at Everard Read JHB on 15th November. A series of assemblages in shades of 'dark' and 'light', the collages have been used to a create a contemporary Vanitas within the context of the Anthropocene era. Wildenboer draws from her own dreams, anxieties and personal narratives and intuitively connects inner and outer worlds, present, past and future. 

Barbara Wildenboer will be exhibiting at Everard Read London from 8 March - 30 March.

ALESSANDRO PAPETTI and ARON DEMETZ

16 November - 17 December 2018

This exhibition of new paintings by Alessandro Papetti and sculpture Aron Demetz marks the first time the artists will present a collaborative show together. Many of the works were made or conceived while working in Demetz's studio in Val Gardena in northern Italy.

Papetti and Demetz share a long-standing fascination with the human figure and indeed the nexus of this collaborative project is the infinitely complex and ambivalent manifestations of the human form.

Opening 15th November at CIRCA in Johannesburg is Polish-born Andrzej Urbanski's first solo with the JHB gallery, A03 2034/538/18. Urbanski creates large, optically-bending spaces composed of the architectural squares, triangles and hexagons of the contemporary built environment. Since his 2012 Residency in SA, Urbanski has devoted his time to the streets, cultures and social interactions of his new home, Cape Town.
